One is obviously the SARS-COV-2, which most probably escaped a bio-lab in Wuhan sometime in 2019. The other is Chinese style totalitarianism, which does not focus on individual freedom, but excuses its excesses with safety/security and some level of prosperity. So many countries around the world tried and still try to copy the Chinese lockdown measures, their initial mask mandates, their curfews, their definition of “essential businesses”, etc., in the name of fighting an allegedly very dangerous and very deadly virus.
Even the early Chinese data about the infection showed that it mainly affects very old people, and people with other serious health conditions, including some info about obesity as a strong indicator of vulnerability. And obesity doesn’t mean you’re a bit round around the middle, but that a man has over 30% body fat, a women has over 40%.
A visualization:
The Chinese government, the Chinese communist party, doesn’t claim to be democratic. They claim to be the smartest people among their 1.3 billion population, which will enjoy their guidance, whether they like it or not. The Han-Chinese see themselves as superior to any other races in their vast country, they disregard the wishes and lifestyles of the others and even look at them with disdain. They also often make fun of the western democracies, by just calling them ‘white liberal’ (like some right wingers in the west call them “libtards”).
About half and more of the population in the west have become ‘left leaning liberals’ and they welcome government as a good thing. They like that government is getting bigger and regulates all aspects of life, as long as the leaders promise to take care of the ‘less well off’. However the western governments and their population still claim and believe, they are living in a democracy. Meanwhile the levels of propaganda and the associated costs became higher than in China, as they have to fight so called “misinformation”, propagated by allegedly tin foil hat wearing right wingers. In China they have an army of censors which deletes all information and opinion not fitting the official narrative. While western media complains about the missing freedom of speech in China, they request the same censorship in their home countries. We call this now “cancel culture”. Frankly, the only difference between Chinese censorship and western censorship is that the west pretends to be a democracy and pretends to have free speech (but that ‘hate speech’ is not free speech).
Mutational load
The only convincing explanation of this trend to the left comes from Edward Dutton. Due to the inventiveness of the west, in regards to technology and medicine, the former Darwinian pressure on the population has decreased. That means people who would have died or at least not procreated 150 years ago, can now do so. The mutational load has therefore increased on average. Ever more re-distributive and socialist policies have been introduced by western governments. Alas those with less mutational load, i.e. the people who are self-sustaining and could afford to have families, pay through their nose in order to support those who can or will not work. This increased to such a degree, that it pays for the people with a high mutational load to have big families (paid by big government) and those with low mutational load can’t afford anymore to have a big family – or any at all. Thus the percentage of the population with high mutational load increased to over 50%.
These people vote in ever more socialist policies, because that is what sustains them. China could largely avoid this with their one-child-policy, as parents and grandparents put all their effort into this only child, to push it to the best of its abilities. There’s no languishing on welfare your whole life in China. They actually let people starve or put them in jail/reeducation camps. They don’t procreate.
You may find this Darwinian approach to life too harsh, but you’re now aware to what it leads, if you’re not harsh enough.
Federalism and Freedom
Both have largely gone by the wayside in the west. The few people who engage in street protests in the western countries show you that the majority of the population rather puts their trust in big government than in their own abilities to make conscious health decisions and create their own prosperity. There are more people yammering about getting government moneys for the forced closures than people who actually want the lockdowns to end.
Our basic laws, like those in the constitution(s), are disregarded by politicians, and the judiciary branch doesn’t even put up a fight. Especially in the USA, the Orwellian doublespeak is obvious. While there are ‘good protests’ (which are actually riots with lots of damage), there are ‘bad protests’ (against lockdowns, mask mandates, etc., which didn’t do any damage). The person who’s in charge of the whole country often tries to undermine federalism, by ordering country wide mandates of this and that. The main stream media doesn’t allow freedom of speech, they never really did anyway, but now they actively cancel anyone who doesn’t follow the ‘official narrative’. Even many internet forums, which were classical liberal regarding freedom of speech up until a year ago, now feel the need to censor, call members out as propagators of ‘misinformation’ or tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorists.
Might makes right
The so called Enlightenment shows its worst features these times, as it abandoned the old sociological wisdom of our traditional religions and focuses only on technical rationality and short term feasibility. Four more years is more important than securing a free life worth living for 40 more years. Even if you have only a basic understanding of religion, you know that doctors, scientists and presidents are NOT GOD. So why do so many treat them as if they were gods? Just because they provide food stamps and free housing? Seems that’s as close to god as you can get for a population with high mutational load.
Democracy is a failure
It might have been the least bad form of government, considering all the others. But people found out that they can vote for food stamps and free housing, and actually get it if they win the vote. Of course nothing is free here, but the recipients of government largesse don’t even care, that they live on stolen money. They don’t have to steal it themselves, but vote for a government that steals it for them. At least the old Greeks allowed only citizens with property to vote, and even that didn’t prevent failure. The way things go currently, I’m not sure that western style freedoms will survive or that all the good things about our enlightenment may float back to the top. I’m deeply pessimistic.

Liberal democracy worked well in the West for a long time but not anymore. It requires a homogenous and reasonable public. Once you have multiculturalism and degeneracy, everyone’s grasping for his own group’s interests and the rules of the game are no longer respected.
Basically what Plato said.

My opinion is: the mistake is not democracy, but too little democracy. It would be better to abolish representative democracy, i.e. parliamentary democracy with its people’s representatives who only represent themselves instead of the community and who promise everything just to get elected and to get the meat. And to set up direct democracy for this, with virtual parliaments for every community, with computers and the Internet, that would now be possible.
Above all, abolish the welfare state, redistribution from one part of the community to another part of the community must be forbidden by the Basic Law.
